STAY UP-TO-DATE ON WEED MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
Clean up spring weed pressure with the right burndown program.
Late harvest last year led to many missed fall burndown applications. That means effective weed control programs in 2020 are more important than ever. Start the new season with timely spring burndown to ensure clean fields ahead of planting.
THE RIGHT SPRING BURNDOWN PROGRAM MATTERS.
3 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
• 1 •
AN EFFECTIVE PROGRAM GOES BEYOND IMMEDIATE WEED CONTROL, IT COMBATS FUTURE RESISTANCE ISSUES TOO.
A good weed control program utilizes multiple herbicide classes, not only for effective weed reduction, but also to combat resistance development. Make sure your burndown program recommends multiple modes of action and be mindful to rotate products with different modes of action throughout the growing season.
• 2 •
YOUR BURNDOWN APPLICATION CAN WORK A DOUBLE SHIFT, JUST BE SURE TO INCLUDE A RESIDUAL.
Consider a burndown + residual program to knock down – and keep down – difficult weeds. Including a herbicide with broad-spectrum residual activity, such as Panther SC, will keep fields clean after initial knockdown and buy you valuable time in the early preplant season.
• 3 •
WEED CONTROL DOESN'T MEAN GIVING UP CONTROL, BE IN CHARGE WITH PROGRAMS THAT OFFER PLANTING FLEXIBILITY.
Remember to check preplant intervals, some programs require a long preplant window ahead of certain crops. If you’re working in a compressed burndown-to-plant timeframe or need maximum planting flexibility, look for programs with shorter preplant intervals. For example, Panther SC + Spitfire may be used ahead of corn, soybeans or cotton with windows as short as 15 days.
